Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies (RGIDS) is a nongovernmental research organisation, registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955. The RGIDS was started by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) in memory of Shri. Rajiv Gandhi, formerly the Prime Minister of India. Since its inauguration by Smt.Sonia Gandhi in October, 2005, RGIDS has been endeavoring to translate the dreams of Rajiv Gandhi into a dynamic reality.


The RGIDS envisages to join the league of leading centres of excellence in economic research, teaching and training in development studies so as to address the development challenges in tune with the changing needs of the economy and society, by reorienting its research priorities and strengthening and diversifying its teaching and training programmes with a view to providing policy inputs and capacity-building in collaboration with other institutions of social science research.
